The OMC-R has a distributed architecture which ensures the scalability required by fast evolving networks. The OMC-R is composed of one server. The scalability of the architecture is ensured by addition of processing power/ RAM/disks in order to reach the maximum capacity (e.g 2000 cells with a SUN Netra 440). In other words, any customer network capacity is reachable; it is only a matter of server size, amount of CPU power, size of the disks and amount of memory.
The OMC-R manages the WiMAX RAN components i.e. Base Stations and the WAC. The components not belonging to the WiMAX RAN like AAA server are managed by their dedicated local manager. This also applies for routers and DNS/ DHCP servers.
OMC-R is used as the management platform of the WiMAX Radio Access Network (RAN). OMC-R provides operators with all the services needed to deploy, operate and maintain a commercial WiMAX network. Thanks to a comprehensive set of open interfaces the CARC OMC-R is also capable of operating in a multi vendor or multi technology environment.
