There are many chemical reagents used for blood vessel anticoagulants, including the heparin series (heparin sodium and heparin lithium) and the EDTA series (EDTA dipotassium, tripotassium, and
disodium). As both anticoagulants for blood collection, it is inevitable that they will be compared and analyzed for differences. Below is a brief introduction to the differences between the two
anticoagulants in terms of anticoagulation mechanism and applicability.
1、 Different anticoagulant mechanisms
The anticoagulant mechanism of heparin is to activate the action of anticoagulant III to inactivate serine protease, thereby preventing the formation of thrombin, as well as various anticoagulant
effects such as preventing platelet aggregation.
EDTA dipotassium, tripotassium and disodium are essentially amino poly Hydroxy acid, which can effectively chelate calcium ions in the blood, thus blocking and terminating the endogenous and
exogenous coagulation process, so as to prevent blood coagulation.
2、 Applicable scope
Heparin is suitable for the analysis of red blood cell fragility, blood gas analysis, red blood cell backlog test, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and universal biochemical testing. Due to
excessive heparin causing the aggregation of white blood cells, it is not suitable for white blood cell counting detection. And heparin can cause blood slides to turn light blue after staining,
so it is not suitable for the classification of white blood cells.
EDTA is suitable for general hematological tests and PCR tests, in addition to coagulation tests, platelet function tests, and the determination of calcium, potassium, sodium, and iron ions.
The fundamental reason is that the anticoagulant mechanism of EDTA is to react with calcium ions in the blood to prevent coagulation, which directly affects the determination of calcium ions.
Hubei New Desheng Materials Technology is a professional research and development and production enterprise of blood collection additives, and is also one of the few established manufacturers
in China that can produce a complete set of blood collection additives. After 18 years of joint efforts by all employees of the company, we have been able to produce affordable and high-quality
blood collection additives such as serum separation gel, heparin sodium, heparin lithium, EDTA dipotassium, tripotassium, and disodium, which have also received recognition and praise from our
customers. If you are also interested, please click on the official website to learn more!
