Brief Introduction of Gabion Box:
Gabions (from Italian gabbione meaning “big cage”; from Italian gabbia and Latin caves meaning “cage”) are hexagonal mesh or welded mesh gabions, containers or baskets filled with rock to prevent soil erosion and to retaining wall/contain soil particles. The structure made by the Gabions reduce water velocities and re-capture river bed sediment in streams.
Gabion basket retaining wall can be built with speed and economy in all circumstances and are particularly suitable for landslide control in mountainous countries and in areas with persistently bad ground conditions. Where ground is liable to subside, the capacity of galvanized welded gabion box to deform makes them preferable to a concrete wall which would crack and collapse. In addition to the distinct structural advantages over concrete and other no-porous gravity way structures, the potential to vegetate a standard steel gabion box or wire faced wall offers unique landscaping potential as well.

Gabions can be used in many ways, including: retain unstable slopes; provide erosion control to rivers channels and shorelines; create acoustic barriers; dressed architectural buildings and many other applications that require a permeable, flexible, durable and very cost effective structure.

Types of Galvanized Gabion Box:
The Galvanized Gabion Box can either be welded or hexagonal mesh, galvanized or plastic coated, depending on application. 1. Hexagonal Mesh Gabions
Double Twisted Hexagonal Mesh Gabion are filled with stones at the project site to form flexible, permeable, monolithic structures for gabion basket retaining wall, slope stabilization, channel lining, rockfall protection and many other applications, which have been used world wide for over 100 years.
Made with high quality low-carbon steel wire is usually galvanized. And the galvanizing layer thickness can be made according to the customer request. Max. galvanizing content can be 300g/ M2. The steel wire also can be PVC coated to provide additional protection for use in polluted or aggressive environments: in salt, fresh water, acid soil or wherever the risk of corrosion is present.

The Gabion structure can be divided into cells by diaphragms positioned at approximately 3 ft (0.9m) distance every each. To reinforce the structure, the edge wire of all mesh panel can be weaved with a greater diameter.

2. Welded Mesh Gabions
Welded Mesh Gabions are manufactured from high quality cold drawn steel wire, which is then electrically welded together and Hot Dip Galvanized or Alu-Zinc coated , the welding mesh can be coated with PVC to safeguard against corrosion and other weathering effects, especially when the standard gabion box are to be used in salty and highly polluted environments, ensuring a longer life. Lacing wire shall be provided separately for site assembly. Lacing Spirals, Alu-Zinc and stainless steel C rings are also available at extra cost if required.

Welded Mesh Gabions are used in many ways including the stabilization of earth movement and erosion, river control, reservoirs, canal refurbishment, landscaping and retaining walls.

Unlike Hexagonal Mesh Gabions, Welded Mesh Gabions offer strong strength, which can hold their shape better – they don’t bulge out when being filled. They are also easy to install, which means more work, less labor and higher productivity.
