The resistors are used associated with AC variable frequency drives (VFD) to dissipate energy that is produced in the motor as the drives provides braking torgue to stop the motor. The resistors are either used for deceleration or braking of motor when operating in regenerative mode and heat are dissipate through the braking resistors.
