The main purpose of the motor run capacitor used in single phase motor applications, is to generate a rotary field that is out of phase with the supply field so that emf can be produced to start the motor. Leaving the capacitor in circuit after the motor has run up to speed rather than disconnecting it, will not only increase the power outpur and stalling torque but also improve the efficiency and power factor of the motor.
