Philippine Iron Wood (Mancono or Mankono)

Philippine Iron wood (or Mancono) is the hardest tree in the Philippines. It is the hardest Philippine hardwood species. It is highly durable. It has been tried with success for the exacting uses for which lignumvitae is valued because of its oily content. Because of its inherent hardness and density, Mancono has long been recognized as a substitute for the world famous Lignum vitae (Guaicum officinale L.).
