FM is an abbreviation for Factory Mutual.  There are two FM organizations: the FM Insurance Company and FM Approvals.FM Approvals is tied up with mutual insurance company groups in the U.S. and is a non-profit organization.The scope of its activities include industrial fire prevention checking of safety equipment qualification testing of material, and certification of equipment systems.Accordingly, certification of products and systems is subject to a combustion test by FM (FM Approvals).
