The Gibson L4 CES Custom Archtop Electric Guitar is a truly amazing instrument.
Even though Gibson had originally created the laminated top EF175 in1948 to fill the need for an electric version of the acoustic, carvedtop L4C, the demand still existed for an electric L4 with a fullycarved top. In the late 1950s, Gibson answered this call by releasingsmall runs of variously configured L4 CES guitar; some with CharlieChristian pickups, some with Alnico pickups, and some with humbuckers.The Custom Collection now offers the L4 CES in its final incarnation,and with solid mahogany back and sides. Other features include 1957Classic humbuckers; a 1 piece mahogany neck with a 20 fret ebonyfingerboard; a carved, and a solid spruce top.
