In addition to fire detection and alarm systems, organizations that have a dedicated server / rack rooms should have minimum gas suppression systems. The different types of gas suppression systems
available are CO2, NAF SIII, FM 200 and Inergen. CO2 systems are generally not recommended for usage in any manned areas. NAF S III was the second alternative to CO2 system. NAF SIII is said to
cause ozone depletion and is not a suitable suppression system for manned areas. The most suitable gas suppression alternatives are FM 200 [Heptafluropropane] and Inergen [a mixture of Argon&
Nitrogen]. Many IT and Technology companies are investing today in either FM 200 or Inergen gas suppression systems for the protection of their server / data center rooms. Inergen gas is a mix of
Nitrogen (52%), Argon (40%) and Carbon Dioxide (8%). Inergen is an effective and a clean fire extinguishing gas, which is safe for humans and equipments in the protected area. It provides long-term
solutions at reasonable cost.
