Soap has been valued for millennia for its ability to clean the body, clothing and households. Soapmaking is a craft which is often neglected in history whether
it be a discussion of Ancient history or 18th century skills. Soap was made at the time of it's inception through to the first half of the 19th century with very basic ingredients. That when
combined underwent a natural chemical change called saponification. Oils (vegetable or fats), water or soft water and woodash (pearlash) were blended with the proper technique will yield
soap, and it may be scented with oils and herbs.
