GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS A pale yellow or greenish yellow mobile liquid with a characteristic fresh, terpeney top note and a warm, rich, sweet-balsamic aromatic undertone. Immisicible with water. DENSITY 0.87 - 0.95 gram per ml. of the freshly distilled oil. CONSTITUENTS Mainly monoterpene hydrocarbons, notably pinene, dipentene, limonene, thujene, phellandrene, cymene, mycrene, terpinene. ACTIONS Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astrigent, carminative, cicatrisant, cytophylatic, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant,sedative, tonic, uterine, vulnerary.OTHER USES The gum and oil are used as fixatives and fragrance components in soaps, cosmetics, and perfumes, especially oriental spice and men's fragrances. Extensively used in the manufacture of incense. The oil is also used in minute amounts in some foods (such as meat products) alcoholic and soft drinks.
