The Toucan LT comes withboth a Centronics IEEE 1284 connection interface and a 10/100 base-TXEthernet connection. The printer has 128MB of RAM, and an optional harddisk can be installed.

In most cases, banners andvinyl are the staple output. The Toucan LT delivers in these areas aswell. The device has four different print modes. The slowest mode,quality, produces 1,440-dpi prints at 33 sq. ft./hr. That's barely oneand a half, 4 x 5-ft. posters/hr. In 720 x 720-dpi production mode, thespeed shoots up to 88 sq. ft./hr. in three-pass mode, or 120 sq.ft./hr. in

Consequently, the printercan produce photographic-quality images. Realistically, mosthigh-production signshops rarely produce such work.

The printer uses adrop-on-demand, piezo, 360-nozzle head, which controls the drop sizeand allows image quality to reach 1,440 dpi. The six-color printer usesCMYKlclm ink cartridges.

Previously, a 65-in.printer was considered very wide. But the 65-in. Toucan LT is the smallmodel. The other option, 88 in. wide, borders on grand-format size. Theactual printable area for these two models is 64.6 and 87.7 in.,respectively. You'll need a lot of room in the shop for thesesubstantial printers. The 64-in. model measures 128 in. wide x 28 in.deep x 48 in. tall. The 87-in. model is 149 in. wide x 28 in. deep x 48in. tall.

The Toucan LT'sconfigurations mean you'll have two decisions to make: How wide do youwant it? What type of ink do you want? After that, there's really onlyone additional option, which we'll discuss later.
