A portion of the seawater is then pressurized by the SWRO feed pump. A portion of the feed seawater bypasses the SWRO feed pump and goes directly to the Pressure Exchangers low pressure inlet (LP IN). Pressure Exchangers are an energy recovery devices used to save on energy consumption in SWRO systems. Pressure switches will protect the SWRO feed pump, alarm the system and shut down the pump if the pressure is out of specification. Flow meter measures the amount of flow feeding the Pressure Exchangers. Pressure switch protects the pressure exchanger (PX) and will alarm the system if the pressure feeding the PX is out of specification. The water exits the PX from the high-pressure outlet (HP OUT) and is pressure boosted by the PX Booster Pump. The PX Booster Pump discharge joins the high pressure SWRO Feed pump discharge to feed the SWRO membranes. Pressure switch protects the PX (HP OUT) and ensures the PX Booster Pump has enough suction pressure. Flow meter measures the amount of high-pressure flow from the PX that is feeding the SWRO membranes.

The typical single pass SWRO system consists of the following components:

Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) is a reverse osmosis desalination membrane process that has been commercially used since long in history.

Brief background on the SWRO system

The Brackish Unit provides prefiltration (multi-media), and Reverse Osmosis (RO), all in an ISO Container. The units are designed to produce water at flow rates up to 200 gpm (45 m3/hr.) in single pass mode and up to 100 gpm (23 m3/hr.) In double pass mode. The unit is capable of producing mixed bed quality water using raw water. Optional features include mixed bed deionization, a plug in silica analyzer and inlet pressure control valve.

Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) System can reject most ionic ontaminants as well as organics over 200 molecular weight. The BWRO System has a total flow capacity of over 200 gpm (45 m3/hr) and can be modified to operate in single pass or two pass mode, with flows of 100 gpm (23 m3/hr) from each of two independently operated arrays. Two 60-inch (152.4 cm) diameter ASME code pressure vessels can be custom-loaded to provide additional treatment such as filtration, softening or dechlorination in either the pre- or post-RO position. Spiral-wound cellulose acetate or polyamide thin-film composite membranes are available, housed in 8-inch diameter stainless steel pressure vessels. The ISO containerized mobile unit can be mounted on mobile chassis or off-loaded to operate on ground level. The unit is Able to combine with other GE Mobile units to enhance system capability.

Membranes. Multimedia filters and five-micron cartridge filters protect and prevent large particulates from entering the SWRO system. Depending on the water quality, the filtration rate and product fluctuates. The MMF Mobile unit is designed for a filtrate rate of 125m3/hr a total of 3000M3/day depending on Turbidity level. The MMF unit consists of 3 MMF Mega vessels filled with different type of media, sand, gravel and anthracite each with 7 feed Dia working on parallel to filtrate feed water. Passing through 3 cartridge housing further treats the filtrated water by cartridge filtration up to 5 micron.
