Now, Brooklyn Funk Essentials comes forward with a hybrid of a different nature: funk and hip-hop and reggae subdued by rhythms, melodies and chants of The East. In this album, Brooklyn Funk Essentials-in company of an embryonic Turkish band: La?o Tayfa-travels back and forth between New York and Istanbul, two ultimately different yet akin metropols. Together, they successfully explore the depths of these two musical cultures worlds apart: Brooklyn funk, gypsy funk, acid-jazz, funk-jazz, reggae, dub and beyond.
