Tsunetomi was born in Kanazawa.  His artist training was first with Koshitune (1858 - 1907) in Osaka.  He became the major painter of Nihonga of the Kansai area in the Meiji and Taisho periods.  He produced a few prints, the famous is The Heron Maiden in 1925.
