Covelano Marmi srl Italy

The Covelano marble is one of the whitest and hardest marbles in the world and is quarried in South Tyrol (Alps, Italy) . From the early middle ages the Covelano marbles attracted many builders who used the material fall downhill for the construction of churches and castles. The quarry (at 2. 200 meters above sea level) was opened in 1845 by Mr. Schweitzer, a master stonecutter and sculptor of King Ludwig 1st of Bavaria. The Covelano marble-contrarily to other white carbonate stones-is a real calcareous crystalline stone and it is also suitable for external applications. The structure is uniform and fine crystalline, frost-proof, hard, of compact texture and can be worked and polished in an excellent way. The production is about 6. 000 to 10. 000 tonns per year. There are different types of this exclusive material: - Covelano bianco Stelvio (white Stelvio) - Covelano bianco neve (white snow) - Covelano brillante (brilliant) - Covelano bianco smeraldo (white emerald)
